a short introduction
Two years ago I arrived in Canberra, Australia. Although I had been travelling quite a lot, Australia was totally new to me. In these two years I have been exploring, with my camera at close hand, this vast country. It has been an amazing adventure.
One of the first things I noticed is the pure day light. Blue skies not obscured by dust and pollution. This intense, clear light has a special effect on the landscape; beautiful sunsets, breathtaking sea views, endless horizons. For a photographer who loves the outdoors Australia offers endless opportunities. I have spent a lot of time trying to capture the incredible beauty of this country.
The collection of pictures presented here is an attempt to describe the variety and splendor of the country as I have seen it and have come to love. Many different elements build the landscape. I have focused on four natural elements: the blue sky, the red earth, the sea and the sun. Together they form this impressive and unique Australian scenery. I have added one gallery dedicated to a distinctive feature in the landscape of Australia: the gum tree.
In one of the pictures you will see a sculpture “Wide brown Land”. It’s a reference to the poem “My Country” written by Dorothea Mackellar in 1908. I like the following apt stanza in particular:
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and terror,
The wide brown land for me!
